Sightseeing Highlights
Munnar: Munnar is a town in the Western Ghats mountain range in India’s Kerala state. It is surrounded by rolling hills dotted with tea plantations established in the late 19th century. Eravikulam National Park, a habitat for the endangered mountain goat Nilgiri tahr, is home to the Lakkam Waterfalls, hiking trails and 2,695m-tall Anamudi Peak.
Thekkady: Thekkady is located in Kerala, India. It offers a very peaceful and calm atmosphere. Periyar National Park is an important tourist attraction in Thekkady. The sanctuary is famous for its dense evergreen, semi-evergreen, moist deciduous forests and savanna grass lands. It is home to herds of elephants, sambar, tigers, gaur, lion-tailed macaques and Nilgiri langurs.
Vagamon: Vagamon is an Indian hill station town located in the state of Kerala, India. It is surrounded by the greenery of tea gardens, Fresh cool air, murmuring Pine forest, small waterfalls and attractive meadows. The peaceful surroundings with cool and soft breeze blowing across the valley makes it a perfect place for meditation.
Ponmudi: Ponmudi is a hill station in the Trivandrum District of Kerala in India. Ponmudi peak is a part of the Western Ghats mountain range that runs parallel to the Arabian Sea. Ponmudi is also called Kashmir of Kerala and is a popular honeymoon destination in South India. It is also a popular spot for backpacking and trekking.
The climate is pleasant year-round. Some notable tourist attractions located in Ponmudi are Peppara Wildlife Sanctuary, Echo Point, Mist-laden valleys, Golden Valley near Kallar River, Ponmudi Falls and Deer Park.
Lakkidi: Lakkidi is a rain forest located in the Indian state of Kerala. Due to the rainfall and beauty, it is often called “Chirapunjee of Kerala”. Many species are found in this area, including lion-tailed macaque, rare birds, Indian Shag, Little Cormorant, Little Green Heron, and Pond Heron. Chain tree, Pookot Lake and a sightseeing point are the important attractions.
Vythiri: Vythiri is a small town and tourist destination located in the Wayanad district in the Indian state of Kerala. It is popular for old world charm of cottages, log huts & tree house accommodations cosily nestled in the forests of Wayanad. Pookode Lake is a fresh water lake with boating facility. It is very popular with tourists coming with children.
Idukki: Idukki district is a densely forested, mountainous region in the south Indian state of Kerala. In the north, Anamudi mountain towers over Eravikulam National Park, where the rare, blue Neelakurinji flower blooms every 12 years. Nearby, Munnar is a hill station known for its sprawling tea plantations and Tea Museum. Farther south is the vast, curved Idukki Dam and Periyar National Park, a tiger and elephant reserve.
Peermade: Peermade is a hill station in the state of Kerala, India. The landscape of Peermade includes spectacular waterfalls, open grass lands and pine forests. It was once the summer retreat of the Maharajas of Travancore. The archaeological excavations point out that there was an ancient Neolithic culture flourished in the high-ranges which wasn’t written or recorded. But the findings of cultural remnants from the hill tracks near Kumily and Vandiperiyar provides some factual evidence of the existence of a rich culture. Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary, one of the largest wildlife reserves in India is situated here. It has herds of elephants and other wildlife as well as lakes.
Malampuzha: Malampuzha is a village in Palakkad district of Kerala, South India. Malampuzha Dam is located here. The main attractions are the suspension bridge, the cable car ride and the Fantasy Park.
Mattupetty: Mattupetty is a famous hill town in the Idukki district of Kerala, South India. Mattupetty Dam is located here and it is to conserve water for hydroelectricity. The view of the valley from here is breathtaking and one gets to simply relax and enjoy the beautiful weather. The lush green tea plantations and forests in and around Mattupetty are ideal for trekking and host a large number of unique bird species.
